Just got back from a long weekend and there are lots of problems. My classroom is a sweltering 86 degrees and some of the lights are not working. I hope they can fix everything that is broken or I just might scream. At least the students haven't complained. I wonder what else could go wrong?????

Portfolios

So, this week I am starting to put together portfolios. It shouldn't be too difficult since I have kept a cummulative folder for each student. I hope they really think about what they have learned as readers and writers this year. Many of them have really improved over the past 9 months. Maybe they will remember the strategies I taught them to become better readers and writers. I sure hope so.

Blogging

So, today most students started their blogs. I do hope they enjoy working on them. I know I certainly do. It is a great way to share information and find out what is happening with their classmates. Time will tell. I will read their blogs every night and see who is posting entries and making comments.

Author Study

So, we started our author study this month. 6-6 is studying Gary Paulsen and 8-7 is studying Walter Dean Myers. Students spent this week researching each author and determining how much of what they write comes from their real life experiences. Let me know what connections you made from the text to the novels you are reading. Leave comments for others to read!
